LATROBE HEALTH SERVICES Women’s Grand Final Preview: Boisdale-Briagolong v Moe

The 2026 Female Football Gippsland League Women’s season comes down to Boisdale-Briagolong and Moe, with their Grand Final shaping as another tight battle between two sides that have been difficult to separate all year.
The teams have already met three times in 2026, splitting their two home-and-away encounters before meeting again in the opening week of finals.

While Moe holds a 2-1 head-to-head advantage, the combined scoreboard across those three matches actually favours Boisdale-Briagolong by four points, 82-78 — highlighting just how evenly matched the Grand Finalists have been.
Boisdale-Briagolong struck first when the teams met in Round 2, opening the game with a 14-point first quarter and maintaining control throughout the afternoon to record a 4.6 (30) to 2.5 (17) victory.
Emily Kelly, Abbey Wyatt, Bridget Cameron, Teagan Sheldon, Jocelyn Camenzuli and Clara Samms were among Boisdale-Briagolong’s best that afternoon, while Chelsea Wain, Caitlyn Maree, Samms and Rhianna Buurman each kicked a goal.
Moe’s best included Cassie Davis, Matilda Jennings, Jordyn Allen, Destiny Norman, Charleigh Kendall and Ash Murtagh, but the side was unable to recover from Boisdale-Briagolong’s early advantage.

The return meeting in Round 7 produced a very different contest.
This time it was Moe that made the fast start, kicking the opening two goals of the match to lead 12-0 at quarter-time. Boisdale-Briagolong responded with two goals in the second term and another in the third, but Moe held firm late to secure a narrow 4.1 (25) to 3.4 (22) victory.
Teagan Sheldon and Abbey Wyatt again featured among Boisdale-Briagolong’s best, joined by Maddison Trewin, Emily Porter, Jacqueline Edwards and Isabelle Elson.

That three-point result set the stage for another close encounter when the sides met for a third time in the first week of the finals.
Boisdale-Briagolong appeared to have taken control when it kicked three goals in the second quarter to establish a 26-17 half-time lead. But Moe produced one of its most important halves of the season after the break.
Moe turned the game around in the third quarter, moving ahead 30-29 at the final change before holding Boisdale-Briagolong to just one behind in the last term and adding another goal itself to win 5.6 (36) to 4.6 (30).
For Boisdale-Briagolong, Shani Dixon was a major threat in that final, kicking three of the team's four goals, while Chelsea Wain added another.
Wain has found the goals in all three meetings between the teams this season, while Sheldon and Wyatt have repeatedly featured among Boisdale-Briagolong’s leading performers and loom as important players again on Grand Final day.
For Moe, its ability to respond when challenged has been a feature of the past two encounters. After losing the first meeting by 13 points, Moe reversed the result by three points in Round 7 before overcoming a nine-point half-time deficit in the finals.
Cassie Davis, Matilda Jennings, Jordyn Allen, Destiny Norman, Charleigh Kendall and Ash Murtagh were all among Moe’s best in the opening encounter and provide plenty of experience from this season’s battles between the two sides.
There is little between the Grand Finalists on the numbers.

Boisdale-Briagolong owns the biggest victory of the three encounters, Moe owns the head-to-head advantage, and two of their three matches have been decided by six points or fewer.

After three meetings and just four points separating their combined scores, the fourth and most important clash of the season promises to be a fitting conclusion to the 2026 Women’s competition.

Traralgon will again look to captain Olivia Ambler to set the standard. Ambler has been named among her side's best in each of the three meetings, while Macpherson, Lexi Schroeter, Platt and Thomas have all featured prominently across the season series.
Speairs has provided Traralgon's most consistent avenue to goal against Bairnsdale, kicking a goal in each of the three matches.
Bairnsdale enters the Grand Final with the clear head-to-head advantage and has led at every quarter-time and half-time break across the three meetings.
But Grand Finals provide a fresh challenge, and after Traralgon produced its highest score against Bairnsdale in the qualifying final, the stage is set for one final battle for the East Division Girls premiership.
